who is she | intro
Hey y’all,
Welcome to my new blog! Since this is my first blog post I will take this time to introduce myself. I, Casey Lee, have recently graduated from VCUarts with my B.F.A. in Photography + Film! *so exciting* During my time at VCU I was on the Cheer team (go Rams) and I was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, amongst a LOT of other things. I loved cheering on the sidelines at basketball games and I knew I was going to miss it but I didn’t expect to miss it this much, but more about that later. Since graduation, I have been taking advantage of not having to be busy 24/7, and let me tell you it’s amazing. I have been spending more time with my family and friends, relaxing, and of course, organizing my hard drive.
I am the creative marketing assistant at Chanco on the James Camp and Conference Center. It’s a project-based job where I create flyers, postcards, banners, and more to market our events either by mail, tabling events, or online. I photograph + video events for Camp Chanco year-round and create promotional videos to bring in more attendees. I also am a freelance photographer. I am young and do not really have one specific thing I like to shoot so I basically do it all; weddings, business events, portraits, and recap videos of events made for sharing on Instagram. Now that the summer camp season has ended, I have had a lot more free time. I am trying to keep myself busy in between jobs by practicing with my equipment on my friends. It’s definitely working! By doing this, my creative juices have been flowing and that is why I am starting a blog. To track my progress in post-grad life as a freelance photographer & videographer.
To be honest, I am already proud of myself for staying motivated. After our thesis show things ended very abruptly and I ended up feeling lost. Once summer camp was in full swing and I got back into the routine of shooting, editing, & uploading, my love for what I do came back as well. I challenged myself to post a photo a day on my instagram (@caseylee.photo) for a month. This sounds easy, but as I said before I don’t really have “a thing.” I have been second-guessing photos to post on there for a couple of years now as I know being cohesive with your brand goes along with being successful. Once I completed my challenge I saw how many kinds of photos I actually take which helped me going forward when redesigning my website. So here I am. On my new blog, on my new website, starting the scary path as a postgrad freelance photographer, trying to figure out what my t h i n g is.
Feel free to follow along and we can see how this goes together.
