Top Ten Favorite USA Images (on Film)
I have seen some amazing places in the last three years while running around with my Hasselblad! I know I share a lot from places abroad, but today, celebrating Independence Day, I wanted to share my favorite images I have made in the USA.

This man was hanging out in his van with his parrot. I asked him if he’d like me to take a portrait of them together, and I would email it. I sat there by my car debating for so long whether I should ask him or not (I was trying to be brave), and I am glad I did because this stranger portrait brings me so much joy and screams Florida.

As my family and I were walking around Magnolia Gardens in Charleston, a man was trying to pet this gator baby (clearly, he was a Florida man). My birthday wish came true - creating a beautiful gator baby photo to print and frame for my house!

Speaking of my birthday, my friends and I descended to Hiawassee for a quaint mountain weekend. One of our adventures was visiting the highest peak in Georgia (4,784’) on a crystal clear day.

Continuing up the Blue Ridge Mountains, my cousin and I hiked with our dogs to humpback rock - being pulled and yanked every which way by our excited pups. Once I got to the top, I loved the view, but I loved seeing other people enjoying our parks even more.

Also in the Blue Ridge is the quirkiest farm my Godsister runs. This is where Ferguson, the Highland Cow, lives. I went to photograph her family, and as we were finishing up, Ferguson just looked so precious. If I were one second later, the horse would have totally photobombed my image. I love this frame because I feel it really shows their personalities!

On an abandoned, washed-ashore sailboat, Melissa and I went through so much film. Together, we created some of my favorite portraits to date. The milky water and morning sun were basically begging to be photographed.

I wanted to see the sunrise so badly I didn’t go to sleep (because I didn’t want to miss it). At 330 AM, I woke up my dad, and we drove through the national park in our rental buggy. By 530 AM, the sun was very much up. It was such a beautiful experience listening to the waves crash against the rocks and change color with the sun!

When touring grad schools, Rebecca and I drove around Baton Rouge, trying to find the Mississippi River. If you know me, the side-of-the-road images are often my favorite, and this cow pasture was right up on the road as the sun was going down - I just had to pull over.

Rob and I drove from Alamosa to Taos, which took us through the old town of San Luis. I don’t remember why we stopped, but before I knew it, we were at this beautiful church on top of a hill in the middle of town. I visited Taos to research traditional adobe architecture, so you can imagine my excitement when we stumbled across this church.

Way back when in the spring of 2021, I had a fresh Hasselblad and some portra. I went for a morning stroll around Wilmington with two friends (after a sunrise beach session and breakfast) and that was probably the day my love for photographing boats began. This is a rather simple image but bring me so much joy - can’t explain it.
